SRI LANKA: Bottled water prices to come down steeply

The Consumer Affairs Authority has issued an extraordinary gazette notification regulating the sale of bottled drinking water in the island.

The gazette by the CAA Chairman, Anura Meddegoda has issued directives for manufacturers, traders and distributors on revised Maximum Retail Prices for locally bottled drinking water.

Accordingly a bottle containing 350 to 499ml of water can be sold at 26 rupees. According to CAA, a bottle of 500 to 749ml of water can be sold at 35 rupees.

A bottle of 750ml- 999ml of water can be sold at a maximum price of 40 rupees based on the authority’s direction.

A bottle of one litre to 1.49 litre of bottled water can be sold at 50 rupees.

Meanwhile a 1.5l to 4.99 litre of bottled water can be sold at a maximum retail price of 70 rupees while a bottle of 7 litres of water can be sold at 170 rupees based on the new gazette issued by the Consumer Affairs Authority.
