Sri Lanka exports down 1.96-pct in March, tea up

ECONOMYNEXT – Sri Lanka’s merchandise exports fell 1.96 percent in March 2023 from a year earlier to 1,037.5 million US dollars, helped by higher tea exports, while most other key exports dropped, data from the island’s Export Development Board showed.

Tea, which accounted for 12 percent of merchandise exports, increased by 16.34 percent to 110.15 million US dollars,

Export of Rubber and Rubber Finished products have increased by 6.01 percent to 91.19 million US dollars, with rubber tyres and tubes up 14.65 percent.

Gloves had fallen by 3.97 percent to 21.76 million US dollars.

Earnings from Activated Carbon, had increased 1.81 percent to 14.02 million dollars.

Spices and essential Oils increased by 38.77 percent to 32.57 million dollars with cinnamon up 66.24 percent and Cloves 216 percent. Pepper fell 21.4 percent and & Essential Oils fell 35.77 percent.

Apparel & Textile have decreased by 10.1 percent to 416.17 million dollars.

Exports of coconut kernel products fell 24.96 percent and fiber products decreased 15.10 percent.

Further, earnings from Coconut shell products stagnated in March 2023 compared to March 2022.
